Immersive Stories That Inspire & Delight
No matter what I write, I want to create an experience for my readers—a story that teaches them something new or makes them feel seen, a story that will make them laugh and cry, a story that takes them on an adventure and makes them think about the characters long after the last page.
Below is a little bit of about what I write and some of my current projects, which are all YA.
Historical Fantasy:
These are the stories at the core of my heart, blending my great love of research and learning with all things magical and supernatural. My novels are grounded in the “real world,” and it’s been a joy to visit and research places like Providence, Philadelphia, and St. Louis for my stories. The magic systems are also often inspired by/tied to actual events, time-period practices, or real locations. I currently have several novels written/in progress that I describe as “eerie 19th century with heart.”
Contemporary Speculative:
Just like historical fantasy, I love creating real characters in real locations with something unusual or spectacular happening in the background. With contemporary stories, I tend to lean a bit more into the ethics of science and discovery.
Contemporary:
My original wheelhouse is YA contemporary, and my favorite stories in this category are deep wells of emotion and feelings, or laugh out loud, relatable books that celebrate joy.
Historical:
Several of my projects are grounded in offbeat moments/events of the 20th century. Expect romps through the gathering storms of the 30s, the kitsch of the 60s, and the rebellion and transformation of the 90s.
Writing with Heart: Embracing Diversity & Empathy in Every Story
Diversity and empathy will always be at the core of every novel I create. Many of my main characters are drawn from my own lived experiences as a disabled and LGBTQ+ author. I love writing strong sibling relationships, best friends, found family, and B-story romance.
Current Status:
Seeking literary agent representation, actively querying.
